Trains to Machu Picchu. There are currently two main railway companies operating to Machu Picchu: PeruRail and Inca Rail. Both offer a variety of services to suit different budgets and preferences.
PeruRail
Belmond Hiram Bingham: The most luxurious option, offering an all-inclusive experience with gourmet meals, live music, and an open-air observation car.
Vistadome: This train is ideal because it has panoramic windows, comfortable seating, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. And we also have the Vistadome Observatory which has a car for live music. It emphasizes sustainability and local culture.
Expedition: The most economical option, offering comfortable seating and large windows. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase.
Inca Rail
First Class: Inca Rail’s most luxurious option, offering gourmet meals, a car with an open bar, and comfortable seating.
The private: a completely private carriage for groups, customizable and offering top-notch service.
Voyager: a mid-range option with panoramic windows, snacks and bar service.
360° Train: Offers panoramic windows, entertainment and sale of snacks and drinks on board.
Bimodal service (bus and train): combines a bus trip from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and then a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. An ideal service for those travelers who want to save money.
How to choose the right train?
Budget: Keep your budget in mind, as prices vary significantly between services.
Level of comfort and luxury: Determine the level of comfort you want and the importance of services such as meals and drinks.
Departure station: Trains depart from several stations, including Poroy (near Cusco – check availability), Ollantaytambo and Urubamba. Choose the station most convenient for your itinerary, currently the Ollantaytambo station is the most visited.
Schedule: Train schedules vary during the year. Check the PeruRail and Inca Rail websites for up-to-date information.
